High Friction Surface (anti-skid) Treatment
Select roads to receive anti-skid treatment in spring/summer 2022 to increase traction
Status update
May 18, 2022
Some of the anti-skid, high friction traction treatment locations require pavement repairs in advance of the work. Below is a list of upcoming single lane closures for advance pavement repair work:
- May 23 – May 26: SE Sweeney Road between 212th Ave SE and SE 222nd Street (Maple Valley)
- May 23 – May 26: SE Covington-Sawyer Road from 181st Avenue SE to 184th Place SE (Maple Valley area)
- May 25 – June 1: SE 128th Street from 186th Place SE to 193rd Lane SE (Renton area)
- May 23 – May 25: 352nd Avenue SE from SE 254th Street to SE 252nd Street (near Kent-Kangley Rd)
Pavement repairs and anti-skid treatment requires dry weather conditions. Some of the scheduled work days may be delayed due to rain. Check the location schedule below for the latest information, or contact BBender@kingcounty.gov.
King County Roads Services will apply an anti-skid treatment called “High Friction Surface Treatment” to 16 sections of King County Roads this spring and summer.
The anti-skid treatment improves safety by increasing traction and reducing the run-off-the-road crashes. This provides more rolling resistance and is most successful on sharp curves where drivers slide off the road and hit fences, other barriers, and end up in the grass or a ditch.
The map below shows the locations where we will apply anti-skid treatment.
