Story

King County plans to start construction on sidewalk improvements along Renton Avenue South in the West Hill area between 75th and 76th avenues South starting Monday, April 8. The county and the city of Renton are teaming up to add sidewalks, landscaping and provide on-street parking on the east side of Renton Avenue South.

The improvements will help connect residents with local businesses, the transit system, and critical neighborhood and regional service agencies like the Skyway Library, Youth and Family Service Center and the Miracles Food Bank.

Construction is scheduled to last 9-12 weeks. During construction, drivers can expect intermittent lane closures on Renton Avenue South between 75th and 76th avenues South and traffic lanes being temporarily shifted to the west.

During construction there will be no street parking available on the east side of the street, and the bus stops on the east side of Renton Avenue South at the South 126th Street and 75th Avenue South intersections will temporarily be closed. Riders of northbound Metro Transit bus Route 106 to Seattle should use the signed temporary bus stop north of 75th Avenue South or the permanent bus stop south of 76th Avenue South.

This project is funded by grants, secured by the city of Renton from the Washington State Department of Commerce and the King County Road Services Division from the U.S. Department of Housing and Community Development Block Grant funding. The grants total $1,125,500.

Weekly construction updates will be made available on the project website. In addition, staff will attend the West Hill Community Association meeting on April 16, 2013 at the Skyway VFW to provide an update on the project.
