Metro Transit launched its latest In Motion program Feb. 22, offering people who live or work in the Beacon Hill and Mount Baker areas the opportunity to earn rewards for pledging to drive less. A new partnership with El Centro de la Raza will help promote the program and help people with limited English proficiency sign-up and participate.

This spring, residents working or living on Beacon Hill and Mount Baker in Seattle can find more ways to receive rewards by giving their car a break and explore healthier travel options available in their neighborhood by taking the bus, walking, bicycling, carpooling, and more.

King County Metro is launching its latest In Motion program, and through May 22, Beacon Hill and Mount Baker participants can pledge to drive less and get an ORCA transit card good for two weeks of unlimited travel.

Participants who register and log their weekly progress also will be entered in the bi-weekly drawings for gift cards to local businesses, and a chance at a grand prize drawing of $150 in groceries.

Over the past 13 years, In Motion has reached over 25,000 people in 40 King County neighborhoods. Participants have reduced over 3.2 million miles of drive alone trips and kept almost 1,500 tons of CO2 out of the atmosphere.

Since 2004, In Motion has provided communities with tools and information on how they can expand their travel options. Those already living a car-free lifestyle can still participate by signing up as a car-free participant and share their motivations for living car-free to inspire others.

Metro is piloting a new aspect of the In Motion program this spring called In Motion Ambassadors. These Ambassadors will work closely with our partner organization El Centro de la Raza to help promote the program and help people with limited English proficiency sign-up and participate. In addition, many program materials, as well as many of Metro’s brochures, are translated into both Spanish and Chinese to make participating in the program as easy and understandable as possible.
