King County Councilmember Jeanne Kohl-Welles has designated four local organizations that will receive retired Metro Transit Vanpool vans to provide transportation assistance to people with disabilities, low-income individuals, seniors, and young people.

Today, King County Councilmember Jeanne Kohl-Welles has designated four local organizations that will receive retired Metro Transit Vanpool vans to provide transportation assistance to people with disabilities, low-income individuals, seniors, and young people. The allocation was approved by the King County Council with its passage of Motion 2021-0231, which allocated 37 vans across King County.

“Every year, delivering ‘retired’ vans to organizations serving individuals in my district is an absolute pleasure,” said Councilmember Jeanne Kohl-Welles. “The van retirement program creatively repurposes these vehicles and supports local groups that are doing important and often underappreciated work throughout King County.”

The King County Vanpool program provides alternative mobility options for a diverse array of King County residents and reduces the need for single-occupancy vehicles. Donating Vanpool vans that are no longer utilized also supports organizations throughout our region in providing vital services to the community.
