Lambert earns public official certification

Summary

Award presented by Washington State Association of Counties

Story

Metropolitan King County Councilmember Kathy Lambert, who represents District 3 in northeast King County, was recognized as a certified public official on Oct. 5 at the Washington State Association of Counties (WSAC) Legislative Steering Committee meeting.
Councilmember Lambert earned the Certificate of Completion after completing the prescribed coursework of the statewide County Training Institute (CTI) Program Partners.

The CTI program includes core courses in county budget and financial management, ethics and public service, risk management, county government structure/roles and responsibilities, effective communication and strategic planning. Additionally, elective courses are required on topics such as legislative relations and community engagement.

“The coursework was particularly valuable because it covered many important topics such as budgeting, how to avoid lawsuits and how to increase efficiency in operations,” said Councilmember Lambert. “I appreciated the opportunity to ask in-depth questions and learn from the experiences of other elected officials.”

Councilmember Lambert first was elected to the Washington State Legislature as a representative from the 45th District in 1994. She subsequently was elected to the King County Council representing District 3 in 2001. She holds a bachelor’s degree and teaching certificate from the University of Washington.

The County Training Institute was developed in a collaborative partnership with agencies committed to strengthening and promoting leadership capacity of elected and appointed county officials in Washington State. Partnering with WSAC on the training program are the Washington Association of County Officials, the County Road Administration Board and the Washington Counties Risk Pool.
