Councilmember von Reichbauer to host Town Hall on Domestic Violence

Metropolitan King County Councilmember Pete von Reichbauer will bring together private and public agencies for a Town Hall on domestic violence on Tuesday, February 19

“We must work together as a region to stop violence in all forms,” said von Reichbauer. “I’m holding this town hall forum with experts in the field and community leaders and providing the public with the most current resources available. We will provide an opportunity for all questions to be answered and to consider action if necessary.”

von Reichbauer, who will moderate the Town Hall, will be joined by King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg, Cheryl Bozath, Executive Director of Domestic Abuse Women’s Network, and Mozhdeh Oskouian from Northwest Immigrant Rights Project. Agencies that assist both those trying to leave abusive relationships and survivors of domestic violence will also be available:

• King County Sheriff’s Office
• Consejo Counseling & Referral Service
• Domestic Abuse Women’s Network

About Domestic Abuse Women’s Network:
Started by two volunteers who were seeking services for a friend who was experiencing domestic violence, DAWN has grown over the past 32 years to provide a continuum of community- and shelter-based services to more than 360,000 survivors of domestic violence. In 2011, DAWN served a total of 16,235 clients and the demand for programs and services continues to grow.

About Consejo:
Consejo is an agency that has offered services for over 32 years to Hispanic communities, focusing on families with children. They provide mental health services including psychiatric and therapeutic treatment, prevention, and treatment for alcohol and drug abuse as well as services for the prevention of domestic violence. They also offer services for adolescents including the prevention and intervention of gang involvement and treatment for substance abuse. HIV and housing programs for individuals and families throughout Washington are also available.
