King County offers 50% discount on surface water management fee for qualifying low-income property owners

Summary

Qualifying low-income property owners in unincorporated King County could be eligible for a 50% discount on the annual surface water management fee on their property, which helps protect public health and safety, and improves water quality for fish and wildlife.

Story

People who reside in an owner-occupied property in unincorporated King County with a household income equal to or less than 200% of the federal poverty level are eligible for a 50% discount on their annual surface water fee, which protects public health and safety while helping to ensure a healthier environment.

Apply by Sept. 15 for a discount on the 2022 fee. King County Stormwater Services Section, as part of the King County Water and Land Resources Division, offers the discount in recognition of need throughout the county for a low-income discount program – particularly in light of the economic hardships presented by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Learn more about the fee discount at kingcounty.gov/swmfeediscount, call 206-477-4800, or email wlrdswm@kingcounty.gov

Funds collected through this program help identify, fix, prevent and reduce the impact of stormwater runoff and other water quality problems for a healthier environment.

Applicants will need their property’s parcel number to apply, but King County staff can find it quickly if the parcel number is unknown. Applicants will also be asked for documents about their income.

To find parcel information, search by address, by parcel number, or zoom in on the map and click on a parcel at kingcounty.gov/services/gis/Maps/parcel-viewer.aspx. Once a parcel is selected, there are also links to the King County Assessor’s eReal Property report.

Property owners in unincorporated King County can also look for postcard reminders to apply for this new program.
