KCIT's Institutional Network (I-Net) is a state-of-the-art fiber optic network providing high-speed transmission of data, voice, and video communications.

I-Net connects approximately 300 public facilities in King County, including schools, libraries, government agencies, and nonprofits.

I-Net services are currently delivered to:

  • School districts
  • King County government offices
  • King County Library System
  • Emergency Management facilities
  • Fire stations
  • Cities and nonprofit organizations across King County

I-Net is a regional asset with a market valuation of $380 million. Its 2,000 miles of fiber optic network connects public, education, and government organizations to a stable, reliable, and affordable communications network.

Bandwidth services:

  • Transport or point-to-point bandwidth (PTP)
    • CPE size 1G (FSP GE206) or 10G (FSP XG210)
      • 1G CPE transport bw starts at 100Mbps and scales to 1G, increments of 100Mbps
      • 10G CEP transport bw starts at 1G and scales to 10G, increments of 1G
  • Internet bandwidth (ISP)
    • CPE size 1G
      • 1G CPE Internet bw scales to 1G (starts at 40Mbps, increments of 10Mbps)

Operational support services:

  • Service packages (4 levels of technical support packages available for PTP or ISP service)
    • Up to a Qty of 32 IPV4 addresses
    • Qos (4 CoS = Internet quality voice, video, and priority data)
    • Choice of 8x5 or 24x7 technical support
    • Includes equipment maintenance

    • Municipality access to Washington State Intergovernmental Network
    • Virtual private connections to I-Net members

Eligible subscribers to I-Net include schools in unincorporated King County, King County libraries, King County government agencies, and other public agencies in King County, including public safety groups, courts, and public health facilities.
I-Net meets the following business needs of public institutions in King County:
  • Cost containment for telecommunications expenses.
  • New instructional tool for educators (two-way interactive video).
  • Improved ability to share information and resources between public and educational institutions.
  • Enhanced participation in public and business meetings.
  • Expandable and upgradable communications network to support future requirements.
I-Net is designed to complement and extend the K-20 offerings for participating schools. It is not intended to replace K-20 in King County.
  • K-20's provides services statewide among higher education and school districts.
  • I-Net provides circuits to schools and districts in King County, and connects schools to libraries and other public resources.
  • I-Net provides connections between participating schools and the K-20 services.
  • I-Net enables schools to access library and government resources.
  • I-Net also provides high-speed, high-capacity circuits.
