Learn about Vashon Community Van, King County Local Services at 2019 WinterFest Santa Parade & Tree Lighting on Dec. 7

Summary

Visit the Local Services booth before the start of the parade and tree lighting at Vashon Island’s annual winter celebration on Saturday. Learn about the service that provides residents with 24/7 reservation-based transportation for group trips, and visit the county’s new office at the Vashon Chamber of Commerce.

Story

County Local Services booth will be set up near the department’s new office at the Vashon Chamber of Commerce, 17141 Vashon Highway SW.

Stop by and meet Community Van Coordinator Megan Lockhart. You can also sign up for the community van program, and Metro and Local Services staffers will be on hand to tell you about transportation and other King County services on the island.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. every Tuesday, Local Services staff members are available on the island to provide information, technical assistance, and other services so islanders don’t have to travel downtown.

Those who will be at the Local Services booth on Saturday, Dec. 7 will get a great view of the Tree Lighting Ceremony later in the evening. The event’s parade begins at 6 p.m., and it culminates with the Tree Lighting Ceremony near Vashon Village.

COMMUNITY VAN

After partnering with the Vashon Chamber of Commerce for a two-year pilot program, Metro began working with Local Services in August to deliver Community Van services on the island.

The Vashon Community Van program remains the same for users under this new partnership. Metro provides the vans, and volunteer drivers are managed by the local Community Transportation Coordinator (now Lockhart).

Vashon Island residents can request trips by calling either 206-773-7003 or 206-625-4500.
