First Light Farm is a 6-acre, eco-friendly farm in Carnation, Washington. Established in 2011 by Jane and Don Reis, First Light Farm operates as both a u-pick and a membership farm to provide access for visitors to sustainably-grown produce. First Light Farm also operates a program for 13-18 year olds to learn and participate in farm work (veggies are given in exchange for work), and a program for persons 18+ who are interested in learning about sustainable farming through hands-on practice. Each year, the farm hires 3 to 5 farm stewards for the growing season. First Light Farm hosts family camping weekends during the summer and a U-Pick Program from July through October. Other programs include a Community Box Program that invites visitors to the table for a meal and lively conversation about the interrelationship among healthy soils, families, and communities; a Community Buyer’s Club that permits groups to harvest large amount of produce at below u-pick prices, and a Vegetable Sharing program that donates excess produce to local food banks and other groups.
