Executive on Council’s modification of sales tax measure to allow funding for replacement of King County Youth Services Center

Summary

King County Executive Dow Constantine this afternoon welcomed modifications made today to the local option sales tax measure adopted last week by the King County Council.

Story

King County Executive Dow Constantine this afternoon welcomed modifications made today to the local option sales tax measure adopted last week by the King County Council:

“The King County Youth Services Center at 12th and Alder is our courthouse for juveniles and their families who go there to seek justice. It is unquestioned that the facility is inadequate and in urgent need of replacement.

“I welcome the modifications made today by the County Council to allow funding for replacement of the Alder facility within the local option sales tax measure the Council adopted last week.

“These modifications improve the November ballot measure while keeping it within the same two-tenths of one-percent previously adopted to maintain current levels of critical public safety and criminal justice services.

“This is the best available option for the urgently-needed replacement of the Alder facility.

“I want to thank Superior Court Presiding Judge Bruce Hilyer for his tireless leadership and advocacy on behalf of the youth and their families who come into the juvenile justice system.”
