King County Executive Dow Constantine remembers U. W. Professor David Olson

University of Washington Professor David Olson passed away due to a stroke on Saturday, September 15:

“Professor David Olson taught my very first class at the University of Washington—introduction to American Politics—in the fall of 1980. Six weeks in, the Reagan landslide completely rewrote the textbook, to the chagrin of both professor and student. Professor Olson also supervised the U.W. Political Science Department’s Legislative Internship Program, where I got my first inside look at how government works. He was a major influence on my career in public service and he played that same role in the lives of many of his students.

“David was a both a great teacher and a noted scholar, all the more so because he fostered his strong connection with the world outside the University gates—to the working men and women affected by political decisions.”
