Inmate of King County Jail dies at Harborview Medical Center

Story

A Seattle woman who was being held at the King County Jail died yesterday at Harborview Medical Center, after being found unconscious in her cell.
 
The 27-year old woman was booked into the jail in downtown Seattle on September 18, 2012, for assault (domestic violence).
 
On Thursday afternoon, September 20, an officer found the woman non-responsive in her cell and called for assistance. Staff immediately began CPR with Jail Health staff and Medic One responding to the scene. The woman was rushed to Harborview Medical Center, where she later died on September 26, 2012 at 5:37 PM.
 
A determination regarding the cause and manner of death is pending from the King County Medical Examiner. Public Health – Seattle & King County is seeking permission from family members to release further details.
 
As part of the standard review process for all jail-related deaths, the Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention is working with Public Health to conduct an internal investigation.
