King County Executive Dow Constantine today applauded President Obama’s announcement of new measures and proposals to prevent gun violence:

“I appreciate the President’s leadership on these reasonable, common-sense proposals to close loopholes, ban weapons designed only for mass killing, and keep them out of the hands of those incapable of responsibly owning them.

“These are values shared by the people of King County, and I urge our Congressional delegation to support these proposals.

“State and federal law specifically pre-empt the local regulation of firearms and gun safety, so I will also work with our Legislature on reasonable measures that can be enacted statewide.”
