Executive Constantine mourns passing of UW's longest-serving president

Summary

Executive Constantine reflects on the passing of William P. Gerberding, who was president of the University of Washington throughout his entire college career.

Story

King County Executive Dow Constantine tonight mourned the passing of William P. Gerberding, the longest-serving president of the University of Washington:

“Bill Gerberding was the president of UW during my entire college career, arriving the year before I enrolled as a freshman in 1980, and retiring three years after I completed my Master’s degree. I got to know him better once I became an elected official, and saw all that he did throughout his 'retirement' to better our community. His leadership not only dramatically enhanced UW’s national reputation – it created our future leaders."
