King County Executive Dow Constantine has appointed a former White House policy expert as his new economic policy advisor. For the past three years, Paige Shevlin served as a special assistant to President Obama for economic policy.

Before she began working at the White House in 2012, Shevlin was the special assistant to the chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors in Washington, D.C. Before that she worked at The Brookings Institution, the Office of the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Labor, and the Congressional Budget Office.

"Paige has the experience to help us create changes that will connect more people with opportunity," said Executive Constantine. "My vision is that King County will be a place where every person has the opportunity to work hard and live securely; where every community is strong, healthy and able to foster the success of its families. By increasing economic access for all, we help ensure that both our businesses and our people flourish."

While King County is one of the wealthiest regions in the country and home to innovative companies, many people who are born and raised here—particularly people of color—have not been able to access that prosperity. Executive Constantine’s goal is transform workforce development in the region so that local residents are able to participate in the region's flourishing economy.

Shevlin earned a master’s degree in public affairs, economics, and public policy at Princeton University. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Wellesley College.

“I look forward to working with local governments, businesses, community organizations, and educational institutions to foster a coordinated regional approach to economic development," said Shevlin. "Executive Constantine realizes that connecting local residents with the best opportunities is not only a matter of social equity—it provides the talented workforce that businesses in King County need to compete."
