Meadow clary is found in limited distribution in Stevens County, Washington where it is invasive and difficult to control in open range lands or pastures. It is a perennial with a persistent root stock. It is similar to clary sage, but its leaves are longer and more linear and its purple flowers lack the big showy bracts.

Legal status in King County, Washington

Meadow clary is a Class A noxious weed and eradication of this species is required in King County. It is also on the Washington quarantine list (known as the prohibited plants list) and it is prohibited to transport, buy, sell, offer for sale, or to distribute plants or plant parts, seeds in packets, blends or "wildflower mixes" of this species, into or within the state of Washington. For more information on noxious weed regulations, see Noxious weed lists and laws.
