In adherence to Gov. Jay Inslee's statewide mask mandate external link , the King County Solid Waste Division requires all self-haul customers visiting County recycling and garbage transfer stations to wear masks/face coverings to protect the public health of customers and employees, and to reduce the spread of COVID-19. The Solid Waste Division will make masks available to any customer who needs one, and customers who do not wear masks or face coverings will not be allowed to dispose of their waste or recycling at a King County facility.
King County does not accept waste from jurisdictions outside our service area.
All customers must show proof they live within King County's service area
Means of verifying residence include: government-issued ID, vehicle registration, utility bill, or rental agreement. Residents of Seattle and Milton will not be allowed at King County facilities because they are outside the service area. Seattle residents may use the household hazardous waste drop-off services at the Factoria Recycling & Transfer Station in Bellevue.
Self-haul customers should expect lines and possible service delays up to two hours due to social distancing measures in place at the transfer stations. Check the line at your nearest station in real time.
We also ask self-haul customers to:
- Pay with a card rather than cash
- If paying by cash, please use exact change. There is currently a national coin shortage, making it increasingly difficult to provide change for customers
- Stay in their vehicle while waiting at the scales
- Stay at least six feet from other customers and employees
If you are sick or exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, or if someone in your household is, do not visit our facilities.
Thank you for doing your part to protect public health and safety, and for your patience during this unprecedented time.
