Project overview
King County repairs and resurfaces roadways so roads last longer and are less expensive to maintain. The resurfacing also means fewer potholes and bumps for travelers.
Roads are selected for resurfacing each year based on their condition and on available funding.
Scheduled work dates are weather sensitive and subject to change.

What to expect in 2024
Work will occur Monday – Friday generally between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Hours will be adjusted slightly as needed to avoid peak travel periods. On some roadways, work will be completed between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 4:30 a.m., Monday night through Saturday morning.
For all roadways, the contractor will place electronic message boards in the area at least 72 hours prior to the lane restrictions. Please check MyCommute for the latest information.
On most roads only the main travel lanes will be repaved. The center turn lanes and shoulders will not be repaved unless they are in poor condition. We will only repave the lanes that need to be repaired. Repaving the areas that are in the worst condition allows us to repave as many roads as possible without exceeding our yearly paving budget.
King County contractors also repair city (incorporated) roads
Smaller cities are invited to add roads to the contract with King County. In 2024, Beaux Arts Village, Black Diamond, Normandy Park, and Maple Valley have expressed interest. Questions about pavement repairs in these local cities/communities should be directed to the local cities.
Photos
Crews repaved a section of 190th Pl SE near Issaquah that needed repair. They started by grinding the pavement before laying down a fresh layer of asphalt.
Before and after paving on 140th Avenue SE in Fairwood. The photo on the right side shows temporary lane striping. Crews returned later in the year to apply permanent stripes on the road.
