In 2016, King County published its first Equity and Social Justice (ESJ) Strategic Plan to ensure fairer outcomes in policy direction, planning, and organizational structures.

In alignment with the county's pro-equity vision, the Solid Waste Division developed its own ESJ Strategic Plan Download PDF 1 MB in 2019, which outlines goal areas specific to some of the division's core business functions, including:

• Contracts and procurement
• Employee training requirements
• Customer service
• Community engagement and outreach
