Council seeks applicants for Valley Medical Center hospital district commissioner vacancy

January 23, 2024

The King County Council is seeking applicants to fill a vacancy on the Valley Medical Center (Public Hospital District No. 1) Board of Commissioners.

District No. 1 is the oldest and largest hospital district in Washington, serving more than 600,000 residents in South King County. The District owns and operates Valley Medical Center. The Board of Commissioners is responsible for overseeing the District’s taxes and certain non-healthcare related functions.

The vacancy is for Position No. 4, so applicants need only be a registered voter and reside within the District to be eligible. The term of the appointment will end in November 2025.

Applications will be accepted until Feb. 14. Finalists will then go before the Council’s Committee of the Whole for interviews. Full Council plans to appoint a commissioner on April 2.

Interested applicants must submit a resume or short biographical statement, and a statement of interest by COB on Wednesday, February 14, 2024. Materials must be submitted to RegionalAffairs@kingcounty.gov. You can learn more about the Hospital District here.
