King County Archives holds historical recorded documents dated from 1852 to July 31, 1991. We cannot fill requests for documents that were recorded after July 31, 1991. Those are available through the King County Recorder's Office.

For marriage certificates dated after 1989, order a copy directly from the King County Recorder's Office (external link).

WHERE ARE PRE-1989 APPLICATIONS?
Prior to 1989, marriage applications were not considered archival records according to the Washington State Records Retention Schedule and were not retained. Please call the Archives at 206-263-2480 or send us an email if you need a letter stating that information.
