Eroding bluffs are both natural and important components of Puget Sound beaches. Sediment supplied by these bluffs during erosion helps shape beaches and provides important nutrients for plant and animal life.
After Development
Nutrient-laden sediments are prevented from reaching beaches and nearshore environments by structures such as bulkheads. This alters both the physical and biological characteristics of beaches and nearshore communities.
