Second Highest Number of Candidates File for Office in King County

Summary

The full list of candidates running for office in 2019 is now available online

Story

A total of 627 people filed to run for office this year, marking the second highest number of candidate filings in the County’s history. This year’s total is just shy of the previous record of 634 filings in 2017. About 93 percent of candidates filed online.

"Running for office is one of the most powerful ways you can serve your community and it’s fantastic to see so many people stepping up,” said Julie Wise, Director of King County Elections. “Our voters will have choices about their city council positions, school board directors, parks commissioners and many others.”

The list of candidates who will appear on the primary election ballot is available online. Candidates are listed online in the order they will appear on the ballot.

We will be holding a special candidate filing period August 7 – 9, 2019 for 11 offices that did not receive any filings. There are no filing fees for these positions.
