Celebrate National Voter Registration Day on September 24

Summary

New voter registration laws make it easier than ever to participate in National Voter Registration Day. From pre-registration for 16 and 17 year olds to same day voter registration, our state continues to reduce barriers to registering and exercising one’s most fundamental right – the right to vote.

Story

Tomorrow, September 24 is National Voter Registration Day, a non-partisan, unofficial national holiday aimed at encouraging all eligible voters to register and make their voices heard.

Newly enacted laws are making it easier than ever for King County residents and Washingtonians across the state to register and exercise their right to vote. Same day voter registration allows citizens to register in-person all the way until 8 pm on Election Day and the Future Voter Program allows 16 and 17 year olds the opportunity to pre-register. Future Voters will then automatically receive a ballot when they are officially eligible to vote.

“National Voter Registration Day is a great reminder to us all to get our registrations in and our addresses updated ahead of the general election.  But our voters don’t need to wait for just one day – every day is voter registration day here at King County Elections! Come see us in-person or register online – it’s easy, it’s quick, and it’s vitally important,” said Director of Elections Julie Wise. “Your vote is your voice, so make sure that your voice can be heard this November.”

Those eligible can register to vote online at votewa.gov or mail in their registration form to King County Elections. The deadline to register online or via mail is October 28. In-person registration is available at the King County Elections Headquarters in Renton and downtown Seattle Elections Annex year-round, as well as at Vote Centers in Federal Way, Kenmore, and Bellevue from October 28 to November 5.
