Welcome! King County is pleased to announce an upcoming RFQ/RFP for selection of a Design-Build contracting team for the Harborview Medical Center (HMC) Maleng Building Single Patient Rooms Project.
Harborview Medical Center (HMC) is one of the nation’s leading academic medical centers, and the only Level 1 Trauma Center serving a 4-state region (Alaska, Idaho, Montana, and Washington). HMC is owned by King County, managed by the University of Washington, and governed by an appointed Board of Trustees.
Scope and Budget
This project will convert two existing outpatient clinic floors in the HMC Maleng building into inpatient units, providing up to 40 new single patient rooms. Also included is renovation of two floors of the nearby HMC Ninth and Jefferson Building (NJB) to allow relocation of the existing Maleng outpatient clinics. Design and construction budget is estimated at $50-$55 million.
This project is funded separately from the Harborview Bond projects. Consultants and contractors (prime and subs) selected for this project will not be precluded from participating in the County’s upcoming Harborview Bond Program contracts.
Procurement
Progressive Design-Build is the alternative delivery contracting process the County will utilize for this project. The Capital Projects Advisory Review Board (CPARB) approved the County’s application to use this alternative contracting procedure on May 27, 2021. Please navigate to https://app.leg.wa.gov/rcw/default.aspx?cite=39.10 to learn more about Design-Build procurement.
King County’s CPARB application is located at https://des.wa.gov/about/boards-committees/capital-projects-advisory-review-board/project-review-committee/project-review-committee-meetings
The Preliminary agreement is expected to be awarded to a team consisting of a prime contractor and lead design firm. Once selected, there will be abundant subcontracting opportunities for interested sub-consultants, sub-contractors, and suppliers as the Design-Builder assembles its team.
