Information about your employee dental and vision insurance plans
Dental plans
Taking care of your oral health is an investment in your overall health. Your dental coverage encourages regular preventive care, helps you maintain healthy teeth and gums, and helps you pay for a broad range of other dental services when treatment is needed.
King County pays for dental coverage for you and your eligible family members. Employees in the Regular and Transit ATU 587 employee benefit groups have two dental plan options: Delta Dental PPO and Cigna Dental HMO. Employees in other benefit groups receive dental coverage from the Delta Dental PPO plan. The Dental Plan Comparison summarizes the key features of both dental plans.
Delta Dental PPO Plan
Delta Dental offers one of the largest network of dental providers in the country. This plan covers diagnostic and preventive services at 100%. Note: Deputy Sheriff plan members pay 0 – 30% for preventive services, according to their incentive benefit level.
The plan offers an incentive program for restorative services and crowns. If you see a dentist at least once per year for a covered service, the percentage you pay for restorative services and crowns decreases each year, until the amount you pay for restorative services reaches 0% and the amount you pay for crowns reaches 15%. See the Delta Dental Benefits Booklet (page 3) on the Benefits Summaries page for more information on incentive levels.
For orthodontia, you pay 50% of the cost, with a lifetime maximum benefit of $2,500 per person. The plan has a maximum annual benefit limit of $2,500 per person.

The plan offers a large network of dentists and specialists with generous orthodontia coverage for both children and adults. Vision plan
Your vision benefits, through Vision Service Plan (VSP), make it easy for you to get the eye care you need.
You may use any eye care provider you want, but if you see a VSP provider, your out-of-pocket expenses are generally lower and the provider automatically files your claim. Kaiser Permanente provides routine vision exams under its medical plan, but none of the other vision benefits, such as frames, lenses, and contacts.
