The Metro BEES are a proactive unit who address crimes directly related to and immediately adjacent to public transit and its infrastructure. In addition to performing these enforcement activities, the BEES are actively involved in identifying and returning stolen bicycles, the Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion program (LEAD), and providing regional bicycle training for fellow law enforcement agencies.

The Metro BEES are one of two full-time, year-round, bicycle teams in Washington State.

About the BEES

Currently comprised of 8 Deputies and 2 Sergeants, the BEES are responsible for patrolling the major transit routes in Downtown Seattle. The BEES are supported by a compliment of 4 vehicle based Deputies (BEARS). These Deputies assist their bike borne counterparts with prisoner transports, Mobile fingerprint identification, and other police functions that necessitate the use of a vehicle as opposed to a bicycle.
