King County Elections (KCE) certified the 2021 December Recall election on Friday, December 17. Seattle City Council District 3 voters returned 41,517 ballots for a turnout of 53.5%.
King County Elections (KCE) certified the 2021 December Recall election on Friday, December 17. Seattle City Council District 3 voters returned 41,517 ballots for a turnout of 53.5%.
61.6% of ballots returned by mail, with 38% returned at one of the sixteen secure drop box locations open for this election. King County Elections hosted a Vote Center in district at Langston Hughes Performing Arts Center to provide replacement ballots, registration, and assistive devices for those with disabilities.

The results were certified during Friday’s Canvassing Board meeting. Board members Julie Wise, Susie Slonecker, and Janine Weihe presided over the election’s certification.
There are no mandatory recounts in special elections such as a recall. However, a recount can be requested before 4:30 p.m. on December 21. The requestor would be responsible for the cost of the recount.
