Elections
King County Elections (KCE) mailed out over 1.4 million ballots to registered voters across King County today for the 2021 Primary election. KCE is projecting 40% turnout for this election. In 2019, the Primary saw a final turnout of 35% and 2017 reached 34%.

This year’s Primary election will feature 214 candidates and seven ballot measures. Voters will have an opportunity to weigh in on their representatives for county, city, school board, and special purpose district positions in all corners of the county.
“While Presidential elections see much of the excitement, our local elections are just as – if not more – important. The offices we’re considering this year have an incredible impact on our day-to-day life. Decisions about our schools, parks, road and transit, criminal justice system, and how our tax dollars are spent are all made at the local level. Now is the time to learn about what’s on your ballot and make your voice heard,” stated King County Elections Director Julie Wise.
Voters will begin to receive their ballots over the coming days and should have them in their mailbox by Monday, July 19’s mail delivery. If they have not received their ballot by Monday, voters should give KCE a call at 206-296-VOTE (8683). Voters’ pamphlets containing statements from candidates and ballot measures will arrive later this week as well.
Ballots must be postmarked by Election Day, August 3, or returned to one of the 73 drop boxes locations across the county. Drop boxes are open 24-hours, seven days a week until 8 p.m. sharp on Election Day.
The deadline to register to vote online is July 26. Voters can register and vote through 8 p.m. on Election Day at any of KCE’s Vote Center locations.
