Grant brings policy, advocacy and communications experience at the federal, state, and local level to District 8. He most recently directed national advocacy programs for a Washington D.C. based organization supporting small businesses and entrepreneurs, and prior to that served as General Election Director for President Obama’s 2012 campaign in Virginia. Grant has also worked for Senator Patty Murray, Congressman Denny Heck and former Congressman Brian Baird in various legislative and political roles. He also attended Super Bowl 48 to watch the Seahawks become Super Bowl champions for the first time in franchise history. In addition overseeing communications, public engagement and general issue development, Grant staffs issues related to the budget, the arts, county infrastructure and Vashon Island.
Lan Nguyen

Lan’s professional experience includes policy advocacy, public health, and emergency management planning gained through working in the non-profit, Legislative, and local government arenas. She holds a Masters in Public Health from the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health. Lan joined the District 8 team in 2015, and among the issues that she staffs are public health, mental and behavioral health, law and justice, homelessness, and human services. She also serves as the community contact for North Highline, Burien, the Chinatown International District, Capitol Hill, and First Hill.
Ella Williams

Ella has worked in advocacy, policy analysis, and transit planning at the state, regional, and local levels. She has been a legislative assistant in the Washington State Senate, a policy analyst for the Sound Cities Association, and most recently served as the lead West Seattle service planner at King County Metro. Ella holds a Master of Public Administration from the University of Washington’s Evans School of Public Policy and Governance. She joined the District 8 team in 2021 and staffs transit, transportation, and land use among other issues.

Prior to being part of the District 8 team, Helen has legislative and campaign experience at the state level. Most recently, she worked as a Session Aide in the Washington State Senate. Helen holds undergraduate degrees in Political Science and Psychology from the University of Washington. She joined the District 8 team in 2022 and is the first point of contact for Councilmember McDermott’s office.
